It’s named after the founder Tom and his cat Moto. True story.
After getting a degree in Design from Leeds Beckett University, Tom travelled around SE Asia and Australia to then return back to Leeds with a lot of good memories and absolutely no plan of what to do next. Already aware the 9-5 life wasn’t for him, Tom got by with bar jobs and kept his creativity flowing through the city’s eclectic music scene designing flyers and artwork for local club nights and record labels. It was in the midst of the music that the idea of a T-shirt brand came about. Tom had always loved cool tees but struggled to find any that were original, good quality, ethically made and not mass produced - so he thought why not make his own?
And so in the spring of 2015 after 6 months of research, designing and preparation, Tomoto launched its first collection of tees. Tom and Moto have been living the dream ever since.
Bamboo viscose is a relatively new fabric made by dissolving bamboo cellulose in a chemical solution to produce a pulp. This viscous substance is then forced through spinneret nozzles, spun into fibres and woven into the silky-soft fabric it is renowned for.
Bamboo is one of the most sustainable crops, growing quickly without the need for pesticides and with a self-regenerating root system. It also requires much less water and labour than alternatives like cotton.
While the cultivation of bamboo is both eco-friendly and efficient, the chemicals used to transform the raw material into a fabric are hazardous to the environment. It may not be perfect, but we believe it’s a step in the right direction when compared to most clothing available on the high street.
Organic cotton is cotton that has been grown without the use of toxic pesticides, fertilisers or herbicides. This sustains healthy soil and the biodiversity of plants and wildlife in the area, while also protecting the wellbeing of the farmers and families who cultivate it.
And it’s not just morally better. Growing cotton organically produces a much softer and better quality yarn than conventional cotton - you only need to feel it to believe it.
Send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org saying the item and size you would like and we can let you know as soon as we’ve got one ready for you. If the design has sold out for good then we’re afraid it’s too late.
Our tees are manufactured in Turkey and our sweaters in India. Both factories are members of the Fair Wear foundation; an independent organisation ensuring fair contracts, payment of a living wage and absolutely no child labour.
The tees fit true to size, although they are around an inch longer than most.
Don’t be too scared to mix it up though. You might get away with a size down for a slimmer fit, or go for a size up for a baggier, more casual look. If you’re not happy you can always post it back to us and we’ll send another one out to you.
All our designs are created by Tom, the founder of Tomoto.
With a background in design and a passion for all things creative, Tom takes his influence from the things he loves and puts his ideas into minimal black and white illustrations. Music, street art, animation, travel and Eastern culture are all big inspirations and elements of these can be seen throughout our collection. There’s no real formula for the designs, just that there are ‘some to make you smile and some to make you think’.
Yes, yes and yes. All our tees are limited to 300 prints per design and our sweats to just 100.
The thing our customers love most about Tomoto is that our stuff is different. It sets us apart from the high street brands and makes every item we sell a bit more special. We cherish this and so we limit the numbers to keep things fresh.
We can refund or exchange any item you are not happy with provided you can send it back to us in an unworn, saleable condition within 60 days of receipt.
If you would like to return an item, send a message to email@example.com quoting your order number, item to be returned and reason for return. You will have to pay for the postage back to us, but if you want to swap for a different item we’ll send it back to you free of charge. Easy.
To get the most out of your clothes we’d always recommend washing inside-out on 30°c and please do not tumbledry. Reshape while damp and hang dry to remove creases. If you need to iron, do so inside-out on cool and avoid ironing directly onto the artwork. With proper care you should get years of wear out of each garment.
